Why should every child learn public speaking

This blog is a personal journey of learning the importance of Public Speaking. Here through this blog the author tries to highlight the importance of learning Public Speaking at an early age by walking us through her experiences.

Well, public speaking was something that I underestimated or should I say completely ignored as a child. I was an under confident child filled with stage fright. But no one really told me how important it was, so I continued to brush aside its significance. I kept telling myself that maybe it’s not that important and my prowess in sports or arts could probably compensate for it. As I grew up, I slowly started to notice that the apprehension of public speaking led me to take a back seat in almost everything. I wondered why? Because during school times children going for music classes or sports training was common, but no one went for public speaking or related classes. So how could such a thing be important?

After entering a new environment , which is my college I observed how some people stood out from the others. How some became leaders and the others automatically became followers. Then I realized how imperative public speaking was and how it impacted one's personality.

I sometimes wish somebody would have told me this before. But anyways I decided to not let that happen to other kids. So through this blog I aim to tell every child and every parent how important public speaking is at an early stage.

Now as a good friend let me explain why I feel it is so important

It builds a confident individual.

It helps you rise above your fears and speak with confidence and also helps you override the lack of any other skill. You get to learn how to change every negative into positive and learn to accept yourself the way you are. A confident individual knows that there is no wrong answer in public speaking. With time I understood how much being confident impacted one’s personality and the way others perceive you.

It improves one’s communication skills

It improves one’s communication skills , with each public speaking experience. Communication is the key to personal and career development. Hence working on it at an early stage is definitely a bonus you earn for yourself.

It improves hand eye coordination.

Gestures and eye contact hold a very special place in public speaking. It is a factor that instantly connects the speaker to his/her audience.

It helps you win over your audience .

Public speaking is the easiest way to grab public attention and also create an impression over a large audience all at once.

Improves critical thinking

It is an excellent way to improve your critical thinking skills. Preparing a speech requires careful thinking and analyzing and hence helps you build a sharp mind. So even a bad public speaking experience can help you improve your journey in public speaking as a whole.

So don’t shy away from any opportunity to get on the stage, and remember that each time you are competing not with others but with your past self. Unlike me you got someone to throw light on the importance of public speaking, so make the most out of it.

We’ll meet soon with more of my experiences and details on each of the individual qualities mentioned above. Until then, Happy public speaking folks ;)
